Health Tip: Fresh Mint Tea With Honey

It is that time of the year when everybody around you seems to have a cold. While there is no cure for the common cold, there are amazing home remedies that help relieve the symptoms and boost your immune system. Fresh mint tea with honey is one of them.  I really love mint tea. Why? It is good for your health and yummy at the same time. A win-win situation right? So what are the benefits of fresh mint tea in a nutshell?

  • Mint contains a lot of antioxidants. You know, those little things that help us fight off infections!
  • Mint is amazing for your skin and is good for your intestines, because it helps digestion while also fighting heartburn. Your digestion is always important, especially when suffering from a cold.
  • Mint contains menthol, which is a natural decongestant that helps breaking up phlegm and mucus. When used in tea mint – in combination with honey – it can also relieve your sore throat. Honey soothes your throat and has the ability to kill bacteria.

Some people say that mint tea tastes like drinking a cup of toothpaste. Personally, I don’t agree. If you use fresh leaves and add some honey it will taste nothing like toothpaste. I do admit though that certain mint teas from a teabag taste a little ‘toothpaste’ like. But a good fresh mint tea with honey should not taste like drinking toothpaste.

    Munt thee, one of my favorites. Echter laat ik, voordat ik de takjes toevoeg de thee eerst een paar minuutjes afkoelen tot 80 graden. Dit zodat de munt beter wordt opgenomen en de bittere nasmaak verdwijnt. Dit maakt de thee nog lekkerder!
