When Maybeline came out with ‘The Rocket Volum’ Express’ mascara the entire online beauty community went crazy about this new product. As a dedicated Maybeline mascara fan I decided to put this Rocket Express mascara to the test.Is this lash enhancing product really as smudge proof, volumizing and easey to remove as it claims to be?
Usually I post a ‘Travel Thursday’ on Thursday, but since it been so long that I did a makeup review I decided to do just that today.
The Rocket Mascara Wand
To be honest I bought the Maybeline Rocket Volum’ Express even before I even knew about the online beauty community going crazy about it. What drew me to it was, next to being a big Maybeline fan, was the clear pink wand that was packed separately from the tube with mascara. I had never seen anything like that before! And when I also read that it was a volumizing mascara I was sold.
The ‘Rocking’ Formula
The Volum’ Express mascara has a kind of dry formula, meaning it dries up to feel quite light on the lashes. Something which I love, because it makes me feel like I’m not wearing any mascara at all. The formula however is a tad bit thick. Usually I apply several coats of mascara, but if I do that with the Rocket mascara my lashes get clumpy. One or two layers is good enough though.
Before and After
As you can see my own lashes are brown with blond tips. Applying any kind of black mascara already makes my lashes look longer, but something that only a few mascara’s do is giving my lashes volume. And the Maybeline Rocket mascara is one of them, I love the result that I get with this mascara; voluptuous but not over the top.
Smudge proof and easy to remove?
The Rocket mascara is definitely smugde and almost waterproof. I took the above picture after biking through a Dutch rain storm. No smudging whatsoever! That brings us to the last thing: is this mascara easy to remove? On the packaging Maybeline claims that the Rocket Volum’ Express mascara can be ‘easily removed using water and soap’. That I can say is, for me, definitely not the case. I, of course, tried to remove the mascara using just soap and water, I ended up looking like a panda but for sure wasn’t gone. Even with an oily makeup remover this mascara (depending on the amount of coats you apply) require a bit of rubbing in order for it to be completely removed from your lashes. However this doesn’t take too long, especially compared to some other mascaras out there.
The Maybeline Rocket Volum’ Express Mascara gives your lashes great volume, is intense black, easy to apply, but not as easy to remove as the packaging says it is (with just soap and water). The results I get using this mascara are definitely worth the time it takes me to remove it from my lashes. Especially considering that a lot of other mascaras take even longer to remove.
Have you tried the Maybeline Rocket Volum’ Express Mascara? If so what did you think about it?
p.s. The little kitty in the above picture is my new 10 week old baby Gurt! I’ll introduce him, expect a cuteness overload, in my diary post this sunday.
