The Autumn Tag

Leaves are falling, tree roots are covered with chestnuts and the days are getting darker. Autumn is coming. I just got back from Dubai where it’s still very much summer, but here in The Netherlands autumn has really kicked in. It’s my favorite season of the year. I would share with you why by doing The Autumn Tag.

What do you like so much about autumn?
Just looking at these autumn themed pictures gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. I love seeing the leaves change colors, collecting chestnuts of the ground, snuggling inside with a warm drink, autumn chocolates in the bakery displays and all the autumn decorations in the stores (hedgehogs and owls!). A a little girl I started a trick-or-treat tradition for Halloween in my neighborhood (around this time Halloweens wasn’t widely celebrated in The Netherlands yet). Also thanks to my American boyfriend I know celebrate the lovely holiday of Thanksgiving in autumn, and in that same month I celebrate my birthday. Lot’s of reasons to love autumn for me.

Favorite autumn drink?
A cup of hot steaming tea or a caramel or hazelnut latte with lots of whipped cream and caramel sauce on top. I also really like hot apple cider, preferably with a lot of cinnamon in it! I know that usually during autumn everyone goes crazy about Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks, but I haven’t really discovered that hype yet.

Autumn treat?
Speculaas known in English as ‘Ginger Cookie’, although I dare to argue that the Dutch version tastes different. And marzipan with walnuts. And chocolate with hazelnuts. And apple sauce. And and and! I’m such a sweet tooth; this list could go on forever.

Favorite scented candles?
It’s more of a winter candle, but I love it every day of the year: Evergreen by Bath & Body Works. I HAVE to buy this candle every year when my boyfriend Chris and I visit the USA for Christmas. Another candle scent that always makes me feel like autumn is cinnamon.

Best autumn lipstick?
A deep berry color, I love Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balm in Sultry, or a brown nude. I’m also a fan of orangey coral colored lipsticks, but that is a color that I wear year-round.

Go-to eyeshadow color?
I love taupe, purple and gold. I love warm brown colors but don’t wear them often as these accentuate my natural dark circles capable of peaking through almost any concealer. Not just under my eye, no I have ‘dark circles’ on my lids too. These aren’t bad, as people have often asked what kind of nude eyeshadow I’m wearing.

Brown Furry Cardigan

Favorite autumn outfit?
A big fluffy or furry cardigan or sweater, combined with a nice skinny jean and boots. I love to wear my high-rise camel colored Timberland boots during autumn. Were I’m from in The Netherlands it rains a lot during autumn, so Timberland boots are perfect to keep your feet warm and dry.

Favorite spot during autumn?
My parents or my boyfriends house snuggled up under a blanked with a hot drink in front of my, a kitty perched on my lap and a good book in my hands. And for an outside spot I’ll choose one of the forest area’s near by, any where with tall autumn colored trees and lots of chestnuts will do.

I found this tag on Dutch blog KittehsCupcakes.nl, a lovely blog by two sisters. I invite all of you that read this tag to copy it on your own blog! Or just let me know in the comments what you like about autumn. Original photo used to create the ‘header’ at the top can be found here.

That kitten’s tail is so fuzzy! There is even a difference between Dutch speculaas and the Belgian version. Cute tag, just love fall colours and feeling.
