One of my favorite things to do when I’ve got some free time is watching make-up video’s on Youtube. Especially when I’m abroad Youtube becomes my daily dose of relaxation. Of course you can live without a TV, but sometimes watching a little bit of TV helps to calm down after a stressful day. I’ve also learned a of lot new make-up tips and trucs from watching make-up (and fashion/cooking/lifestyle/you name it) videos on Youtube and some guru’s really turn their tutorials into short movies. I think filming make-up tutorials/reviews/first impressions would be a great attribution to my blog, so ones my work in the fashion industry becomes a little less hectic I’ll get started on that.
1. Itsjudytime by Judy Travis
Judy is a Filipino-American in her twenties living in The USA, Seattle with her husband of Irish-Japanese descent and their baby whom they affectionately refer to as ‘Julianna Bear’. What sets Judy apart from other guru’s is that she mainly films first impression videos, in which she tests products out on the spot. When trying for example a new foundation, she’ll show how the product lasts and feels throughout the day. This, in my opinion, makes her first impression videos very trustworthy. Another thing that I like about ‘Itsjudytime’ is that she is very honest about the products she uses, may it be about sponsorship or her opinion. All of her clips are of good quality and have a nice background.
Next to doing make-up the Travis family also has a vlog channel called ItsJudyslife on which they showcase their all day life through daily vlogs. It’s like Keeping up with the Kardashians, but than real.
2. Charismastar by Charis Lincoln
Charis is an American make-up guru of Mexican, Porturican and Native American descent. With her husband Jacob behind the camera (and so now and then in front) she puts out a lot of different make-up, fashion, personal, but also religion related videos. Believing in ‘God’ or ‘more than just this life’, but unwilling to put a label on myself they’ve helped me a lot in trying to understand my Christian boyfriend better and religion in general. Even if you’re not religious at all, I believe that having a general knowledge about at least the biggest religions on earth is very important. But that’s a whole other story.
Charis is crazy about Disney and anything fantasy related. Her videos are truly short enchanting movies, in which you’ll see her transform herself from an already beautiful girl into an elf, snow white or an evil witch. But what I like most about Charis’ videos is that they’re super professional. Her husband Jacob films and edits all of them, and you can totally tell that the both of them put in a lot of effort. Every single clip has a great background or is filmed at an epic location, making it interesting to watch even if you’re not into make-up at all. To me ‘clean-cut’ videos are very important. Even if you don’t have a very good camera you can make a video look good by simply using a plain wall as a background.
Michelle Phan is also one of my favorite Youtube guru’s, but with over 4 million subscribers she is so well known under beauty lovers that I didn’t see a point in introducing her. And if you don’t know her: even more reason to check out Youtube channel!
