Vitamin C is extremely popular in beauty products nowadays. Sunscreen, foundation, serum, you name it; a version infused with Vitamin C is most likely available! So how did Vitamin C become such a popular ingredient in skincare products?
Well it all started with a pig. A hairless pig, to be exact. A clever lad from Duke University discovered that topical use of Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, reduced sun damage on the pig’s skin. Ever since Vitamin C has been a hit in the beauty world. Because if it works for the pig it will probably work for us too right?
But what makes this sun-damaged-pig-skin-fighting goodness so amazing? Vitamin C is an antioxidant and is known to fight free radicals, which damage collagen. Damaged collagen can led to dried out the skin and wrinkles. To make a long story short: Vitamin C helps you fight aging skin. More important then wrinkles is the fact that Vitamin C helps you fight sun damage and as we all know that too much sun exposure can lead to skin cancer!
For BRAVA Magazine I came up with a skincare routine that involves ALL Vitamin C products. You can read the article HERE.
