KIKO MILANO is a brand that I first discovered while on holiday in Italy. I was walking through the scenic town of Bergamo (imagine walking in a hand painted postcard) during Christmas time and all of a sudden this tiny store full of colorful makeup popped up. I walked in and fell in love with this affordable brand. In Valencia I bought two lipsticks from the Unlimited Stylo line. This line claims to last up to eight hours. I decided to put it to the test in this review!
KIKO is sold in many European countries and their online store ships to even more. KIKO just opened their first store in The Netherlands (Amstelveen)! It’s a little far away for me, but if I happend to be there for some reason I’ll make sure to drop by!
The colors I got are 001 (soft pink) and 002 (coral pink), they don’t have a special name. The Unlimited Stylo lipsticks cost €5,- each, which is on the higher side for a KIKO lipstick as some of their lipsticks sell for as little as €2,50.
UNLIMITED STYLE IN 002
Unlimited Stylo 001 is a soft pink color with a slight sparkle. The texture lies somewhere in between matte and sparkly. When applied the lipstick is more sheer then I had expected. It even feels a bit ‘grainy’.
In the above picture you can see the sparkles very well. The lipstick is not super sheer, but you can see that the pigmentation doesn’t get distributed evenly across the skin. Some areas have a lot more coverage than others.
The semi-matte sparkly texture doesn’t look good my lips either as it really accentuates the little ‘cracks’ in my lips. I also can’t seem to get an ‘even’ layer on my lips: my fine lines are filled with product but on the rest of my lips the lipstick is very sheer. I really love the soft pink color, but because of the odd texture this lipstick isn’t working for me. The texture also causes the lipstick to disappear from my lips a lot faster than eight hours (I give it an hour at max).
UNLIMITED STYLE IN 002
Now the Unlimited Stylo in 002 (coral pink) is a completely different story: this lipstick is very opaque and creamy. When applied it feels like velvet on your lips. The color is vibrant, but not over the top.
Can you believe that this is only one stroke?! The Unlimited Stylo in 002 is super opaque and matte! When I swatched this color in the store and removed it from my wrist shortly after it left a stain. I wondered if I had a bad reaction to the lipstick, but it turned out that this lipstick is just super long-lasting!
On the lips the Unlimited Stylo in 002 looks absolutely beautiful. My lips feel like velvet and aren’t sticky at all. After a while you can’t even feel the lipstick anymore! This color has really become my to-go lipstick. But what makes this matte lipstick really that awesome? It doesn’t dry out your lips and lasts for several hours! If you don’t drink or eat I think it would easily last for eight hours, but going that long without food or water obviously isn’t a smart thing to do!
The only downside to 002 is that it doesn’t reapply very well. After several hours (including a meal and a couple of drinks) the inside starts to wear off. Applying a fresh layer over the lipstick that is still on your lips causes the product to – how do I best describe this… – roll off your lips? When you glide your lips over each other the lipstick comes off like dry powder (I hope this makes sense!). It’s possible to reapply f you remove the lipstick to a point where only a stain remains (this can be done with a piece of paper and some water).
I’m very surprised that two colors of the same lipstick line can be this significantly different! I absolutely adore the matte 002 and would definitely want to repurchase or buy more with the same texture, but 001 is just not my cup of tea! To me 002 feels like a high quality lipstick (for a very small price), but 001 doesn’t seem worth the price! So my advice if you are interested in the Unlimited Stylo is to go for the matte lipsticks and not the sparkly ones.
