[REVIEW] Night Life Palette – EM Cosmetics by Michelle Phan

I’ve been teasing you guys with looks created with my Night Life Palette by EM Cosmetics, created by the lovely Michelle Phan, for the past two weeks. And today I can finally I share with you my in-depth review of this unique looking palette. So without further ado let us take a look at the Night Life Palette.

EM Michelle Phan Night Life Palette review
There are four different kind of Life Palettes: Day Life, Beach Life, Night Life and Career Life. I have the Night Life Palette. I chose the Night Life palette, because it is the most versatile: it contains matte neutral colors as well as bright sparkly color. This allows you to use the palette for both everyday and party looks.

All of the Life Palettes come with a card that shows you how to create the four different looks step-by-step. If that is not enough and you want some extra guidance, you can watch one of the video tutorials on the EM Cosmetics website.

EM Cosmetics tools
The Life Palettes come with a tool take the shadows out of the palette and a double-sided brush. The eyeliner brush works really well. As you can see in my ‘Everyday Look‘ I often use it to line my eyes with one of the darker shadows.

EM Michelle Phan Travel Palette
Currently the EM Michelle Phan Life Palettes come with a little travel palette, which is nice because the main palettes are a bit too big to take with you on a holiday. The travel palette also allows you to create your own mini palette. You can go all out with smokey eyes and a red lip or go for a more neutral look by combining some of the brown eye shadows and a light lip color.

On the side of each shadow is a little gap that allows you to scoop the shadow out with your handy-dandy tool. This can be a little bit of a struggle, because the Life Palette’s magnetic qualities. I was actually quite surprised by how the strong the magnetic attraction is. I’ve often taken this palette with me in a bag while riding my scooter. Not once did any of the shadows come loose.

Be careful with your tool when taking out the shadows as the eyeshadow pans are very thin. I’ve scraped my tool through several pans, because I was not being careful enough! I must mention though that I do not have a very steady hand.

All of the eyeshadows blend really well and have great pigmentation. I decided to film a video in which I swatch all the eyeshadows from the palette. You can scroll down to the bottom of this post if you want to see the swatches right away. In the next paragraphs I explain a bit more about each individual look and I show you how to create the ‘City Glitz’ look.

City Glitz EM Michelle Phan
This looks contains awesome silver shadows and sweet lip colors. I might not come across in this photo, but the silver shadows from this look are super sparkly. I don’t think I have ever come across such a sparkly silver eyeshadow. For swatches check out the video down below.

EM Michelle Phan Palette Look
This is what City Glitz looks like on the face. I really love a grey smokey eye. The silver sparkles from the eyeshadows on the left side add a little extra to the look. This is not a look that I would wear during the day, but it is perfect for a night out on town! This is the only look that I demonstrate in this post. If you are curious what the other shadows from the Night Life Palette look like you can check out the video at the bottom of this post.

EM Michelle Phan First Date
I think the name of this look is very fitting. The gold/brown shadows make your eyes pop, while the neutral colored lip glosses give your lips a subtile glow. The three dark brown shadows look very different at first, but once you swatch them (check out the video down below) you can see that they have an almost identical base color and that only the sparkles differ in color.

EM Michelle Phan Dinner at Eight
This is the look that I find myself going back to the most. I prefer to keep my daily makeup neutral, so I often combine the top left shadow with the one below. And if I want to glam things up I add one of the red lip colors. The top one is matte, while the one below is a glows (which you can wear on its own or over the matte lip color).

EM Michelle Phan Happy Hour
Happy Hour is the most colorful look out of the four. The purple shadows from this look are also part of the reason why I chose this palette over the other three. Serena from Dutch blog Beautylab.nl once showed me that purple really makes my green eyes pop. I do not wear bright colors on my eyes often, but if you do see me wearing colorful eyeshadow chances are I’m wearing purple.

EM Cosmetics Night Life Travel Palette
So far I’ve been using my EM Cosmetics Night Life Palette on a daily basis. I line my eyes with the black shadow from ‘City Glitz’ almost every day, use the neutral colors from ‘Dinner at Eight’ whenever I have bit more time to get ready in the morning and often wear one of the lip colors to add a pop of color to my daily look.

In the above video I swatch all of the shadows and I tell a bit more about the pigmentation of this palette. I hope you enjoyed this lengthy review. Also if you liked the video please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my Youtube channel if you haven’t already!

The Life Palettes retail for $59 (±€51.50).

Your City Glitz eyelook is fabulous, love the silver on you and such a grand palette. Heard about her EM on your blog before, but the photos here are making me greedy.

Wat een fijne en uitgebreide review! Het lijkt mij een prachtig palette om te hebben, vooral de paarse oogschaduws vind ik ook wel erg mooi 🙂 Als ik voor kleur ga kies ik ook graag paars <3

Great review, photos and film!! It was nice to see each section swatched out, so thank you for that! I have been in a war deciding whether or not this palette is worth the money. It is so expensive that if I were going to spend that money I almost feel like I’d feel better buying an Urban Decay palette. What do you think? I know it looks great!

    Much Love,

You are very welcome! I’m glad you liked it! I do not own any Urban Decay palettes, but I’m assuming you’re talking about the Nude Palettes right? I have swatched Urban Decay in the store and I think the pigmentation compares to this. Some colors from the Nude Palettes might be slightly more pigmented. The Life Palette however, depending on which version you choose, gives you more colors. In general you get more product with the Life Palette. So in the end it depends on what you want: very pigmented nude colors, but less of them or more variation of shadows (and blush + lip colors) that are of almost equal/equal quality.
