The Skydeck of Willis Tower – formerly known as Sears Tower – is the coolest Skydeck I have ever been on. And believe me I’ve been on many. I’ve even stood on top of the highest building in the world. So what makes Chicago’s Skydeck so awesome? It features four glass boxes – The Ledge – hanging on the side of the building that you can stand in!!
Standing in one of the glass boxes on the side of the tower! The glass was a bit blurry on the day we visited. Hopefully the guy cleaning the glass was coming the day after haha. Can you imagine having to clean this kind of thing?!
Willis Tower is 527 meter high. The glass boxes are attached to the highest floor (103). When you look down there is 412 meter of nothingness in between you and the cold hard pavement.
This is what the glass boxes look from the side. Awesome aren’t they? Last year the glass of one the boxes CRACKED! Seeing those pictures really freaked me out. Fortunately nobody got hurt and according to representatives it was the protective gear that cracked and not the glass, but if you see the pictures it looks pretty darn scary!
But this view is worth suffering a little fright right? I love seeing the skylines of big cities. Especially in the USA. There is nothing like Chicago or New York in The Netherlands, which makes these kind of experiences even more awesome.
Visiting the Skydeck was definitely the high light of my trip to Chicago. I highly recommend to pay a visit if you go to Chicago. This Skydeck is one of the few that I consider worth the money ($19,50).
